Holidays: Term Time Only (39.6 weeks) plus holiday entitlement

Role Summary

Here at Seashell Trust we provide care and education for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairment and communication disorders and autism.

We are recruiting for a talented Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join our team in Royal School Manchester.This is a permanent position and the hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm, 39.6 weeks per year plus holiday entitlement (to be taken out of term time).

Requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths grade A-C or equivalent level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy is essential

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent, or willingness to achieve this

  • Experience of working with children and young people with complex learning difficulties including PMLD, MSI, sensory impairment or ASC

  • Experience of working with and managing students who present with challenging behaviour

  • British Sign Language Stage 1 or commitment to complete this qualification

  • Ability to co-ordinate, supervise and support staff activities

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to write and maintain reports and student notes and communicate effectively with parents/carers/other professionals

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to prioritise and organise day to day workload

  • Ability to organise, support and co-ordinate group or individual activities

  • Knowledge of communication strategies for non-verbal learners

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure in order to maintain low arousal approach and environment for students

  • Experience / awareness of Person Centred Thinking and its application to support learners

  • May be required to accompany professional staff on home visits/assessments

  • Regular requirements to move and handle pupils who have a range of physical abilities, in a variety of settings including classroom, gym, pool areas, residential units and some restricted spaces

  • The ability to meet the physical demands of the post which requires substantial walking, standing, lifting, bending, working on the floor, twisting and pushing wheelchair users around the Trust premises and within the community

  • Regular requirement to support students with challenging behaviour
